There are ways to teach your children to overcome fear according to God’s Word. Children’s imaginations can take their thoughts to places of deep fear. We live in a world where we are fighting a spiritual battle every day. Ephesians 6:12-13 NIV says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This verse tells us that we have an enemy and this enemy wants us to live in constant fear and to be consumed by it.
Children are easy targets for the enemy if they are not covered in prayer and filled with God’s truth. We can teach our children biblical ways to overcome fear and teach them who they are in Christ. They have nothing to fear when Jesus abides in their hearts. We are more than conquerors through Him (Romans 8:37 NIV). Our children can learn to call on Jesus when they feel fear creep in, and begin to understand that He is the ultimate truth and no darkness can successfully come up against Him.

What Are Some Biblical Ways To Teach Your Children To Overcome Fear?
Often I’ve gotten woken up at night by one of my children screaming “Mom! I had a nightmare!” or “Mom! I’m scared there’s a monster over there!” In their young minds, they get crippled with fear and are unable to sleep peacefully. Often it doesn’t take much to bring fearful thoughts into their minds, sometimes simple things like a scary pumpkin at Halloween season or hearing a loud vehicle passing on the road. Their imaginations often bring wild thoughts that make them feel powerless next to their fears. 1 John 5:18 NIV says “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.” My husband and I remind our children of the protection they have in the Lord. That Jesus is stronger than any evil that creeps in.
We share with our children how they don’t have to be afraid because Jesus is more powerful than any scary monster or noise. We pray with them and remind them that they can pray too, anytime and that God is always there listening. That in Christ we have been given authority to overcome darkness and walk victoriously.
There are several ways we can teach our children to overcome fear through God’s Word. Because biblical truths can squash fear, and help children realize they can overcome evil through Christ. And God has given us all we need to walk victoriously through life in His Word. Romans 8:37 NIV says “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Fear does not have to have a hold on our children!
