There are goals for raising godly children as Christian parents that will help our children learn how to live a life according to God’s Word. Goals we can set to raise them in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6 NIV).

Because our goals should look different than the world as believers, our children are being raised for God’s kingdom and not only things attained in this life. So we want our children to be fruitful and develop a strong faith in the Lord that is unwavering and firm on a solid foundation in Christ. When raising your children to be set apart from the world, there will be things that have to look different. 1 John 2:15-16 NIV says “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- comes not from the Father but from the world.”

As Christians, our goals should please God, and not be the same goals the world aims to achieve. We should be kingdom-minded and always live knowing that we are not promised tomorrow.

Setting some goals for raising godly children helps parents to be intentional in applying biblical truths to their parenting. As Christian parents, we want to raise our children to fear God. To live a life that acknowledges God’s presence, His authority, His Holiness, and Him alone as the Creator.

And we want to show our children how to give God the credit and praise He is due. To acknowledge that God is powerful and sovereign and in control always.

2) As Christian Parents We Want To Raise Them With Eternity In Mind

There are goals for raising godly children that help parents focus on what’s important and what matters in this life. Because we don’t live just for today, but with eternity in mind. Because tomorrow is not promised and we must prepare our hearts to stand before God because one day we will.

So raising our children to live every day knowing that how they live today affects their eternity. Teaching them to be kingdom-minded and to live each day to grow more and more to be Christ-like. To live in this world, but know they are not of this world, because God made them for so much more.

3) We Want To Raise Them To Live According To The Bible As The Ultimate Truth

Setting goals for raising godly children helps parents to raise their children in biblical truths and intentionally apply God’s Word to parenting. If we truly believe God’s Word is the ultimate truth, then we should live accordingly and raise our children by that truth. And we can raise them to look at God’s Word as the ultimate authority and to live by it every day.

The world will throw many different views their way and we want to plant God’s truth in their hearts and build in them a solid faith that stands firm against opposing views. Ultimately they can stand firm on a solid foundation that cannot be shaken.

4) As Believing Parents Raise Them With A Desire To Please God, Not Man

We can go our entire lives trying to please others, but ultimately it’s all for nothing. Because the only opinion that matters in the end is God’s. And we want to raise our children to live to please God alone, and not get sucked into people pleasing.
