In my motherhood journey, when I try to do things with my strength, I end up overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated, and burnt out. I’ve caught myself thinking I knew what was best, and I selfishly carried on doing things my way. When I became desperate for help and guidance, I would turn to the Lord for strength.
I’ve come a long way in my faith and motherhood journey and learned to give God areas of being a mother that are out of my control. I now apply biblical wisdom to my decisions as a mother and trust that God knows what’s best for my children. He loves them so much, and some things are beyond my control, I know the Lord is always directing my steps and watching over my children. I surrender to Him their lives, futures, and well-being.
The Lord has given us all we need in His Word and we can live a victorious life, raising children who love the Lord. God doesn’t expect us to do it all on our own, He knows we need His help. But there are areas in motherhood where we need to place ourselves before Him and trust that He knows what’s best for our children. He can walk with us and lead us as Christian mothers and we can turn to His Word to help us make the best choices that align with His will.

1) Surrender Our Children’s Safety And Protection
As Christian mothers surrender to God and lay at His feet the burdens too heavy to carry alone. It can be tempting to want to protect your children from all pain, we live in a world of evil and hear about the wicked things happening around us. Truthfully, we can’t protect our children from everything, we can try to keep them safe and make wise decisions.
But we must trust God and place them in His hands. We are called to pray and to instill wisdom in their hearts, and guide them in the ways of the Lord. God sees the bigger picture, and knowing this helps build trust in His ultimate plan. God protects His own as it says in Proverbs 18:10 NIV “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” The Lord is our safe place, we can fully trust and surrender our children unto Him.
2) Surrender To God Your Children’s Future
Another area to surrender to God is your children’s future and to pray for God to help them live a life of obedience according to His will. As mothers, we want our children to have a bright future and lead them to success. But they don’t always make wise choices, so you can surrender your children’s futures to God. By doing so you are saying “Lord, I trust you to lead my children, to open doors, and to give them wisdom to be on the path You have for them.”
Place them in His hands, and trust they are growing into who God created them to be. Things we had in mind for our children, may not be God’s plan for them. Proverbs 16:9 NIV says “In his heart, a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Trust the Lord’s leading on your children’s futures and pray for God to guide them in truth.
3) Surrender To God The Desire To Be In Control Of Everything
We simply can’t be in control of everything and sometimes it’s a real temptation to try to be. But we need to surrender this to God because He is the only One in charge of everything. God wants us to walk faithfully and trust Him even when things get challenging. As our children grow, they may make unwise choices, and they may not listen to our concerns.
And we have to trust the One who is sovereign over all and who leads to all truth. We should surrender the desire to be in control and let the Lord lead our family and trust that He is directing them and doing good work in their hearts. We do our part by faithfully praying and pouring truth into their lives and God will work in their hearts.
4) Present Our Children’s Health To The Lord
It can be scary when your child has health issues. As mothers, we want our children to be in their peak health, and not to suffer. Our children’s health is an area we need to surrender to God, He knows the exact trials, issues, struggles, and pain our children will experience in their lifetime. Many things are beyond our control, and in this fallen world, we are not guaranteed good health.
So we need to surrender all our worries and concerns to God and trust that He has our children placed in the palm of His hands. We can’t let worry of fear consume us, but faithfully live each day knowing and trusting God’s plan. Even if health concerns arise, God has equipped us to handle whatever may come. He is faithful and trustworthy.
5) Place Our Children’s Salvation In God’s Hands
Surrender to God your children’s salvation and ask the Lord to help direct them to His saving grace. As Christian mothers, we are called to raise our children in God’s way that leads to eternal life. We can pray for them and their salvation. But overall, we need to trust God to work in their heart and save them.
We can plant the seeds, but God makes them grow (1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV). God is the One who saves, it is by the power of the Holy Spirit that one can come to know the truth. As Christian mothers, we have a responsibility to point our children to Christ, but we need to trust the Lord and place their salvation in His capable hands.

6) Surrender The Way We Pictured Our Lives Looking
Sometimes, life just doesn’t turn out the way you pictured. Things don’t always go as planned, and you may find yourself in a spot wishing things were different. As Christians, we should be willing to surrender how our lives will look to God. Life wasn’t meant to fulfill a certain dream but to glorify God. It’s okay to have desires and dreams, but when things don’t go as we hoped we need to be okay with that.
God wants us to live with contentment in all circumstances. Philippians 4:11-12 NIV says “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.” Knowing that this life is temporary, our focus should be on eternity and living every day for God’s glory no matter what life brings.
7) Place Before The Lord The Thoughts That Intrude Your Mind
Surrender to God the thoughts that intrude your mind and lean on the Lord for strength and the power to overcome unwelcome thoughts. Sometimes, thoughts invade our minds, and we need to surrender them to God. Thoughts of negativity, judgment, or ones that don’t glorify God. Walking a life of faith is choosing to focus on His Word and live accordingly.
It’s easy to not dwell on the good thoughts during moments of stress or frustration. We can pray, “Lord, help me to have thoughts that please you. I surrender my thoughts to you, and pray that you give me the strength to overcome negative thoughts.” We can take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV). Thoughts, worries, or concerns about our children can be placed before the Lord and surrendered to Him. We can pray for Him to renew our minds according to His Word.
8) An Area To Give To God As Christian Mothers Are To Place Weaknesses At God’s Feet
We need to surrender our weaknesses to God and place them at His feet. Because God can bring good out of any situation and He can use us in our weakness, and turn it around for His glory. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV says “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
If we surrender our weaknesses to God, we are humbly admitting our need for His help and trusting He has good for us and He can bring good from our struggles. We may not see the good right away, but God is working things out even when it’s not clear. He can bring beauty out of any situation.

9) Surrender To God The Decisions You Make On Your Children’s Behalf
An area for Christian mothers to surrender to God is to help them let go of the fear of making wrong decisions on behalf of their children. As mothers, we sometimes have to make some pretty hard decisions for our children. We want to make the best choices for them, and sometimes we don’t get it right.
All we can do is pray for guidance and wisdom, for God to help us make wise choices that glorify Him. God knows every aspect of our lives and He sees the hard choices we need to make. We need to trust that He is leading and guiding us to make decisions that are best for our children. He has equipped us with all we need in His Word to wisely raise our children in the truth.
