Ways For Mothers To Replace Negative Thoughts With God’s Truth

When negative thoughts come, you can surrender them to God and choose to look at things through the lens of God’s Word. Because Jesus told us in this world we will have troubles of many kinds, but He has overcome the world (John 16:33 NIV). As Christian mothers, there are so many things that can race through our minds and it’s important to stay focused on who God says we are.

Because this world has standards and opinions that don’t align with God’s truth. So keeping our eyes on the truth will help us walk victoriously through whatever life throws our way.

In my motherhood journey, when I find myself feeling defeated and burnt out, I know the only way to feel renewed from within is by meditating on God’s Word. His Word is the truth and regardless of what other voices around me are saying, I can find my refreshment in Him. I pray that God helps me have pure thoughts and the ability to quickly toss away negative ones.

I know that His Word is the ultimate truth and our minds can be a battlefield if we don’t take those negative thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV).

If you are a Christian mother and you are looking for some encouragement when you’re facing negative thoughts and you want to turn to God’s Word for renewal, then below are several Bible verses to encourage and inspire you.

How Can Christian Mothers Replace Negative Thoughts With God’s Truth?

1) Thoughts Of Anxiety

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When thoughts of anxiety come, you can present them to God and ask Him to fill your heart with peace. This verse reminds us not to let anxious thoughts consume our minds, but rather to live with a prayerful heart and turn to God when anxious. The Lord is the one who guards our hearts and fills us with a peace that goes beyond all understanding, a peace that comes from living according to His Word.

These Inspirational Scripture Cards are lovely for reminding mothers to meditate on God’s truth rather than allowing negative thoughts to consume their minds.

2) Thoughts Of Fear

Psalm 27:1 NIV says “The Lord is my light and salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?”

As mothers, there are many things about raising children that can bring fear into our minds. We can’t control every aspect of our children’s lives and there are times when we have to pray and trust their well-being to the Lord, such as when they are under someone else’s care. But with God by your side, there is never a reason to let fear consume you, because He is the sovereign one who is in control of all things. He is faithful and you can turn to Him to relieve the fearful thoughts that try to creep in.

3) Thoughts Of The Heaviness Of Life

Psalm 55:22 NIV says “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Sometimes life can feel heavy and full of burdens that feel too much to bear. The Lord wants you to cast your cares and burdens onto Him because He loves you and wants to walk beside you carrying the heavy load for you. Because He took all those burdens and nailed them to the cross, they are no longer ones you have to carry. Just lean on Him and trust Him to carry you through when you’re in the trial.

4) Thoughts Of Feeling Defeated

Psalm 103:2-4 NIV says “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”

Even when you feel defeated, you can turn to God’s Word and be reminded of the victory you have in Christ. In this life, though the trials come, you can walk in the assurance of the hope you have in the Lord. He has redeemed you and saved you from all the worries of this life that tried to defeat you, and you can walk victoriously in Christ.

Sometimes you just need a reminder of God’s faithfulness, and this beautiful Faith Necklace is a lovely way to be reminded to trust the Lord and place your faith fully in Him, no matter what.

5) Thoughts Of Worry

Matthew 6:34 NIV says “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

As a mother, worry can creep in and send your mind racing and overthinking things that are out of your control. The Bible tells us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV) and choose to focus on His truth that sets us free. You can focus on today and the tasks of today, because worrying about tomorrow is useless, there is nothing worry can accomplish. So you can pray that God helps you to surrender all those worries to Him and replace your mind with peace.

9) Thoughts Of Anger

Ephesians 4:26-27 NIV says “In your anger do not sin:” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. And Do not give the devil a foothold.

It’s important to pray through thoughts of anger and surrender them to the Lord. Dwelling on anger can give the enemy a foothold in your life and create bitterness in you. When you turn to the Lord and give Him those thoughts, He can help you overcome and find peace again.

10) Thoughts Of Hopelessness

Romans 15:13 NIV says “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Even in a world full of darkness and evil, you are never hopeless. God has made a way to bring you abundant life through His Son, and you can fight off those thoughts of hopelessness by replacing them with God’s truth. You are a child of God and you have every reason to walk in the hope that Christ freely gave you.

11) Thoughts Of Shame

Psalm 34:5 NIV says “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”

You don’t have to give in to thoughts of shame, because when you walk in the Lord’s truth you are radiant. God sees you as His redeemed child, and the things of the past no longer define you, in Christ, you are free indeed.

12) Thoughts Of Guilt

Romans 8:1-2 NIV says “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Christ paid it all, He took on all the guilt so you don’t have to bear it anymore. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, and you can walk in that freedom and surrender to Him those thoughts of guilt. The enemy wants you to dwell on the guilt, but you’ve been set free. As mothers, when guilt creeps into our thoughts, we can dwell on who we are in Christ and the blessings that are over our lives because He sets us free from guilt and shame.

13) Thoughts Of Hopelessness

Hebrews 10:23 NIV says “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess. for he who promised is faithful.”

God is ever-faithful, He is true to His promises and we can trust Him fully. As mothers, whatever we may face that brings feelings of hopelessness, we can surrender those to God and we can be assured that we have abundant hope in Christ. God’s Word renews us and reminds us that Jesus came to bring life and to bring it abundantly (John 10:10 NIV), and we don’t have to allow hopeless feelings into our minds, we can choose to abide in the hope we have in Christ.
